Project of the Week~ Scored Background

Hello it is my turn with a Project of the Week for Repeat Impressions.
  ~Scored Background~
I used #9009-F, Butterfly (sm) and #9004-E, All Your Dreams on this card.

Instructions for to make this card.  I apologize for the shadows in the photos.  I am an amateur and no matter how I positioned I couldn't get any photos without shadows.

The only special tool you will need for this project is a score board.  I used a Scor Buddy, I love this little board. :)

  1. Start with a 4 x 5 piece of card stock. Starting with opposite corners score the first line from one corner to the next.  Without moving the paper score every 1/2 inch working your way to the outer edge.  (You may find it helpful to mark the score line with a marker on your Scor Buddy.  This will help when you have to move the paper.)
  2. When you have half of the paper scored turn the paper 180° and repeat step 1.
  3. Next start at the opposite corner than in step 1.  Repeat the scoring process in steps 1 and 2.
  4. This is what your paper should look like.
**Bonus Tip**
     5. When cutting out a butterfly it is difficult to cut the antennae so I ink the antennae part of the image and stamp where I want the butterfly to go.  This way you can easily cut out the butterfly without having to bother with the delicate antennae.

When scoring your own background you can get many different patterns by changing up the direction you scoring.  I have seen some awesome brick backgrounds.

I hope you give this fun background a try.

Project of the Week with Repeat Impressions~Recessed Window

Hello it is my turn for a project of the week.  For my project I picked a recessed window.  I made two cards using this technique for you.

I used several of the images from Bottoms Up and Wine Time for my two cards.  This is a fun technique and really gives a card a custom look. One of the things I like about this technique is that it uses basic craft supplies.
The supplies needed to make these cards
  • 10 1/2 x 5 1/4 card stock folded in half for the card base
  • ruler
  • square die
  • craft knife
  • bone folder
  • washi or low tack tape
  • Score Tape or other strong tape
  • decorative papers and embellishment to finish card.

Here are the steps to make you own recessed window card.

Place die in the center of the inside of the card front and tape in place with washi tape.  Trace lightly with a pencil around the inside and outside of the die.  I used a black pen so it would show up in the photos.  You don't have to worry about the pencil lines because you will cover them when finish the inside of the card.
Remove the die and using a ruler draw lines as illustrated to give you a guide to cut the opening.

Using a craft knife and a ruler cut the lines you just drew.  With the back of a craft knife and a ruler lightly score the inside and outside lines from when you traced around the die.
Fold and crease with a bone folder so that you recessed area looks like this.
Add tape as shown.  Next you can add you image.  The opening is 3 1/2 if you use Spellbinders Small Squares as I have.  You will need to adjust the measurements if you use a different die.
Here is what the inside of the card looks like.
And here is a close up of the front.  You can see in this photo you can see the cut areas in the corners.  To cover this you need to make a front panel hide this.  Using the same square die cut out the center of your designer paper or card stock.  Save the square you cut out to use on the inside in the next step.  Now add sentiments and embellishments to finish the front of your card.
Don't forget the inside as you have that ugly inside of the recessed window that you will want to cover.  Here is how I finished the inside of my cards.

One more look the finished cards.

There are a lot of steps to these cards, but when you break them down they are all fairly simple and give a card such a wonderful look.  I hope you will give a recessed card a try.

Have a wonderful week!!

Thank you for stopping by.

Repeat Impressions Project Of The Week~Watercolor Background

Hello it is my turn for a Project of the Week with Repeat Impressions. This time I decided to show you how to make a watercolor background.  This is a technique that I have loved for some time.  In the past I always used it on fall themed cards.  So this time I went with spring colors and whipped up this card.
I used #3908  Celebrate Spring that I stamped on top of the water colored background.  Super quick and easy.   I went with a basic sketch and embellished with at butterfly that I cut out with Spellbinders die called Flutters.  I topped it off with a  few pearls.

Here are the steps to create your own water colored background.

  1. To start gather your supplies.
    • Water color paper
    • paintbrush
    • watercolors
  2. I like to use the smoother side of the paper which gives you a smoother look.  In frame 2 is an example of the rougher side.  If you desire to have more texture then use the rougher side.
  3. With a wet paint brush load up some paint and the with a sweeping motion go back and forth on the paper until you get the desired look.  If the color is too intense then add more water.   I like to over lap the colors slightly so that it blends.  Here again is where a little more water will help.  You can see in frames 3 and 4 I used went with a monochromatic background.
  4. I don't have a lot of patience waiting for the paper to dry so I like to speed it up with my heat gun.  Be careful not to over heat or the paper will burn.  Not that I know anything about it. :)
  5. This is a super simple technique and the beauty of it is that you can use your kids watercolor paints.
I hope you give this a try and enjoy it as much as I do.

Repeat Impressions Project of the Week~Gift Card Holder

Hello it is my turn for a Project of the Week again.  I decided to make a gift card holder.  These are fun little holders that are quick to make.  In fact one year at Christmas my son had an urgent request for one.  He gave me about 15 minutes notice.  Well I was able to whip up one of these really fast.  It didn't have much coloring and I relied on patterned paper to do most of the work for me.  At any rate  here is the gift card holder I have for you today.

I used the large coffee cup from #9303 Thanks a latte' which I colored with copic markers.

Here are the steps to make this gift card holder:

Start with a 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 piece of heavy card stock.  With a Scorpal score on the long side at 3",  4  1/4" and 5 1/2".  Fold the 3" and 5 1/2" fold in a valley fold.  Fold the 4 1/4" fold in a mountain fold.  The card stock should look like this.
Now you need to cut a slot for the gift card to fit into.  I used a Spellbinders die.  Some people like to use punches.  You need to make sure that you will have a long enough slot for the gift card.  So if you don't have a die or punch that will work you need to cut or punch twice to extend the length.
Next you will need some strong tape.  I used ScorTape.  I love this stuff. Tape as shown making sure not to get to close to the opening for the gift card.  Not that I know anything about this or anything.

Now you need to add ribbon so that your gift card will close.  I used ScorTape again.  If you don't want a ribbon you could use a small piece of Velcro or a magnet.
This is how the inside looks when it is complete.  I add #1113 Happy Birthday for the inside sentiment.
The final step is to decorate the front.
I hope you give one of these a try and enjoy making them as much as I do.  Thank you for stopping by and have a wonderful week.

Repeat Impressions Project of the Week~Sour Cream Container

Hello I am happy to be bringing you this weeks Project of the Week.  With Christmas in just two days I thought it would be fun to share with you a super quick little treat holder. It is called a sour cream container. These are really easy and fast to make, in fact one year I made one for everyone in my family and hung them on the tree.  I love they way they looked on the tree.
And a side view.

I started with a 4 1/4 X 5 1/2 piece of patterned paper. Here is a pattern for the placement of ScorTape.

To assemble the sour cream container tape together the 4 1/4 sides to resemble a toilet paper tube.  Next tape together one of the open ends and crimp be careful not to got up more than 1/4 inch.  Now you can fill the container with whatever goodies you choose. To finish the top you tape it together so that it goes the opposite way as the bottom.  Now that you have your container filled and almost ready to give you will need to add a tag.  For my tag I used #8819 Do Not Open that I colored with copics.  I added this to a snowflake base that I made with Spellbinders Create a Flake 4.  For a finally touch I added some fun white ribbon and a snowflake button.  If you have never made one of these fun sour cream containers you should give it a try.  I think you will enjoy making them as much as I did.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you have a Very Merry Christmas!

Project of the Week with Repeat Impressions~Easel Card

Hello, It is my turn for another Project of the Week for Repeat Impressions.  I am so excited to share  my project with you.  I decided to make an Easel card with a crazy quilt background. I picked this adorable penguin stamp #8801 Swinging Penguin from the Christmas Penguins stamps.  You can see all of the darling little guys here.
I wanted the card to be able to open to two different points so I added a sentiment tag attached with bakers twine.  The sentiment is  #1141 Merry Christmas  and is placed it higher on the inside.

The card is 5 X 5 1/2.  I started with a piece of white card stock that measured 5 X 11 and using my Scor Pal I scored at 3 and 5 1/2 folding both creases to the inside.
I added Scor Tape to the bottom section of the front as shown here.
For the front I grab some of my favorite Christmas papers left over from last years cards.
This is what the front looked like after I cut and arranged the scraps in a patterned I liked.  Notice I didn't worry about the center as it would be hidden behind my image.  I repeated the process for the lower panel on the inside.

I hope you enjoyed my project and are inspired to give an easel card a try. Have a fabulous and fun week.
