What If? With Repeat Impressions

It is time for another sketch challenge at The House That Stamps Built.  Check out this fun sketch Wendy came up with.
Here is my take on the sketch.
I used #9116 Hot Air Balloon Cluster and #2502 Wishing You Joys.  I started by coloring the balloons with copics and cutting them out.  To create the sky background I used a piece of clear plastic that was cut out in a cloud shape and sponged with blue ink to create clouds.

Head over to The House That Stamps Built to get all the details of the challenge and don't forget  there is a chance to win a $25 Gift Certificate. Check out the fabulous creations from the rest of the RI Rock Stars.

Birthday Wishes

Hello I hope you weekend has been enjoyable.  I had a few extra days off work and that means I had extra time to play in my craft cave. Yahoo!!!

I made this one for the release challenge on StampTV.  The challenge is called Winging It.  Well I about a month ago I got Stamper's Friend illustrated by Melanie Muenchinger.  I love the hummingbird in this set and know right away that I wanted to use it for the challenge.  I started by stamping the flower three times and adding the leaves and colored them.  Then I stamped the hummingbird and colored it.  Well my coloring wasn't good, so I stamped it again and gave it another go.  This time it came out and I had to cut it out and glue it over the ugly one.    I finished it off by sponging the blue background and adding a sentiment.  I am also entering this into CardMaker's Facebook Challenge "KISS" Keep It Simply Summer.  This hummingbird reminds me of the beautiful hummerbirds we get here every summer.  They so enjoy visiting our flowers.  The family and I enjoy watching them zoom around the backyard.  Sometimes they fight over a flower or bush.

Thank you for stopping by.

Repeat Impressions Designers Choice Challenge~For the Guys

It is time for another Designers Choice Challenge.  This time it is Karen's turn and her challenge is For The Guys.  Being the only female in my household I often need cards for the guys in my life.
I made this card with my hubby in mind.  We both love anything tropical so I know he will love this card.  I used #2408 Large Palm Trees and #9013 Chill Out.  I started with a piece of white card stock and sponged a small area in the place I wanted the sun with yellow.  I then masked it and started sponging around the sun with a darker yellow and followed up with shades of blue.  I then masked the sky and sponged the bottom with black ink.  Finally I stamped the palm trees which are not silhouettes like I wanted for this card.  All I did is colored the trees in with a black marker.

Now head over to The House That Stamps Built and get all the details of the challenge.  I hope you can join us in this challenge for a chance to win some fabulous stamps.  Don't forget to check out the fabulous creations from the rest of the RI Rock Stars.

What If? Wednesdays With Repeat Impressions

Hello it is a sketch challenge week at The House That Stamps Built.  Once again Wendy has a fabulous sketch.
Here is what I created using this great sketch.
I knew I had to have this stamp when I saw a card my mom (Geri) made with it.  Here is the card I used for inspiration.  I wanted a Broadway kind of theme and that is why I added the rhinestones around the oval.  To get the spotlight effect I used post it notes to mask off the area and then lightly sponged until I got the desired look.  The stamp is #7119 Wiener Dance and the sentiment is #7026 What a Weenie!

Now be sure to head over to The House That Stamps Built and get all the details of the challenge and don't forget  there is a chance to win a $25 Gift Certificate.  Now be sure to check out the fabulous creations from the rest of the RI Rock Stars.

Lots of Love for Lauryn Card Drive

Isn't this little girl just precious? Let me introduce you....
Lauryn was diagnosed with Leukemia on March 27, 2014. She is currently hospitalized in the DC area undergoing chemotherapy to fight this terrible disease.  Lauryn is Linda Payne's granddaughter...many of you in the stamping community probably already know sweet Linda!

As news of Lauryn's illness spread via social media, many of you have asked if there is anything you can do to help, so we have come up with a plan. We decided to have a Card Drive and would like to invite YOU to help by sending "happy mail" to Lauryn and her family.

Please create cards to share your love and encouragement for Lauryn and her family. Lauryn's parents are Josh and Elizabeth and she has two older siblings: Lily and Logan. We thank the Lord for this dear family and need to pray for them as they are seeking to glorify the Lord throughout this trial.

Cards can be mailed to:

Children's National

You can find updates on Lauryn via a Facebook page that has been set up by some family. It is Fight on Little Lauryn. They have shared how encouraging it is receive a simple "like" on a Facebook status or words of love and encouragement that is posted.
Here is the fabulous group of bloggers who have joined us in promoting this Card Drive. We would love for you to hop with us as numerous bloggers have blog candy and all you need to do is leave a comment...
Here is my card for Lauryn
This adorable image is Love You So Much from Whimsy Stamps. The sentiment is from Whimsical Spring from Gina K Designs.  I colored it with copics (see below for colors) and highlighted the wings and flowers with a clear Wink of Stella glitter pen.

Repeat Impressions Project Of The Week~Watercolor Background

Hello it is my turn for a Project of the Week with Repeat Impressions. This time I decided to show you how to make a watercolor background.  This is a technique that I have loved for some time.  In the past I always used it on fall themed cards.  So this time I went with spring colors and whipped up this card.
I used #3908  Celebrate Spring that I stamped on top of the water colored background.  Super quick and easy.   I went with a basic sketch and embellished with at butterfly that I cut out with Spellbinders die called Flutters.  I topped it off with a  few pearls.

Here are the steps to create your own water colored background.

  1. To start gather your supplies.
    • Water color paper
    • paintbrush
    • watercolors
  2. I like to use the smoother side of the paper which gives you a smoother look.  In frame 2 is an example of the rougher side.  If you desire to have more texture then use the rougher side.
  3. With a wet paint brush load up some paint and the with a sweeping motion go back and forth on the paper until you get the desired look.  If the color is too intense then add more water.   I like to over lap the colors slightly so that it blends.  Here again is where a little more water will help.  You can see in frames 3 and 4 I used went with a monochromatic background.
  4. I don't have a lot of patience waiting for the paper to dry so I like to speed it up with my heat gun.  Be careful not to over heat or the paper will burn.  Not that I know anything about it. :)
  5. This is a super simple technique and the beauty of it is that you can use your kids watercolor paints.
I hope you give this a try and enjoy it as much as I do.
